Alastair Hamilton PEZ sez: Where to start? There are so many things to say about the new Scicon Aeroscope glasses. They were released to the public on the 22nd of May, but you will have seen them on the face of Tadej Pogačar since Milano-Sanremo in March. The Slovenian then won the Tour of Flanders and the Amstel Gold Race wearing Aeroscope. In the Giro d’Italia you would have seen the UAE Team Emirates and Jayco AlUla wearing, plus the women's Jayco and UAE teams. Maybe that isn't important to you, but if the stars are happy to wear them, then they can't be bad.

No, not Mr. Pogačar

The first thing I noticed was that the Aeroscope come with a clear lens, which is listed separately at €80, I don't use clear very often, but it is a very handy ‘extra’ that you should have for those dull/rainy days. Also they come with the usual microfibre pouch and the Scicon ‘soft case’. The case isn't that soft and give a lot of protection and can be used as an under the saddle pouch, a very handy and well made small bag.

Okay, what about the glasses. They are of the modern style of BIG, but the shape isn't obtrusive and they don't stick out. The one's I have had a clear frame, but I don't see the frame at the edges of my vision. As with all glasses, try them with your helmet as some might touch the helmet and push down. The Aeroscope worked well with my Giro and the teams use MET, but always best to try first. They are comfortable and you forget you have them on. Exceptionally adjustable legs with length and ear-pieces hold without squeezing, they are also quite straight, so easy to put in the helmet holes. The nose piece is of soft rubber and also very adjustable, plus it can be replaced and held securely by a small screw. As to clarity of the lens, as you would expect from Scicon, no problem here. No reflections or glare and very clear, they have also been treated to repel water, oil, and dirt. Impact resistant and UVA & UVB protective lens.

The frame also has a 12° tilt to the lens angle which also helps when wearing a helmet. There is also a central VenteX™ funnel in the lens, Scicon claim that this "is strategically placed outside your eyesight to protect your view from direct light while facilitating airflow." I other words, they shouldn't steam up. They certainly didn't while I was riding.

They weigh more than my ‘old school’ Oakley's, but then they are half the size, also the Aeroscope's are held tother with screws, seven, no push together plastic hinges. The weight wasn't noticeable, unlike my reading glasses for the computer which are heavy.

Not the lightest

Would I recommend them? Yes, very much so. Very stylish and would think they would adjust to fit any face shape. Most importantly they are optically perfect and, as I said earlier, you forget you have them on. I don't ride as fast as Pogačar, but I did feel like a star. Never forget you should ‘never sacrifice style for speed’.
