COOK COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A local police dog will now be a bit more safe on the job.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police K-9 Aris has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K-9s Inc.

A photo shows Aris proudly wearing the vest standing in front of a Cook County Sheriff vehicle.

Aris’s vest was embroidered with the sentiment, “in memory of K-9 Hobbs." Hobbs was a four-year-old police dog in Des Moines, Iowa that died of a sudden illness last December.

Aris joins a long line of police K-9s to get a protective vest from Vested Interest in K-9s which has provided nearly 6,000 vests to dogs in all 50 states, at a value of about $7 million since 2009.
